"This is a radio bridge across the Zambezi and across the world..."
The “Radio Bridge" broadcast tells a story of women self-empowerment through unity and team work. The radio piece interweaves sound- and radio recordings made by the Tonga women of Zubo Trust and Zongwe FM in the rural border region of Zambia and Zimbabwe with music- and radio contributions produced in solidarity by international artists, composers and musicians from “around the world”, from Australia to Canada. The basket-weaving artistry of Tonga women is renowned globally; yet hardly their stories and voices. Listeners journey on sounds, storytelling and music to the shores of the Kariba Lake, to remote areas in rural Zimbabwe and Zambia, in to the circles of the basket weavers and to the port of the first and only women fishing cooperative on the Lake.
